The Band

Alex Attir

Guitar/Vocals

I started playing guitar when I was just twelve years old; I picked it up very quickly and was majorly influenced by the band Led Zeppelin. Listening to them was what first brought me into music from the start. They were and still are a major influence on me, my musical career, and my life.

My style of playing fuses classic delta blues alongside a style of classic hard rock and heavy metal with my roots being in strong classical and folk. All of which is greatly affected by iconic players such as “Blind” Willie Johnson, Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and most notably SRV. Bands like Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Guns N’ Roses, The Who, and The Rolling Stones are just a few of the many musicians who have continuously impacted my guitar playing and songwriting. I take my vocal approach from the same styles, using singers like Robert Plant, Axl Rose, Steven Tyler, and Howlin’ Wolf as a model and something to strive for.

I first got deeply involved in the musical industry as an intern session guitarist for a small Tampa recording studio. While I was there I gained skillful experience in the process of music recording, all of which later helped me to enhance the production of The Masons debut album. Since that time I've played many gigs and have gained an amazing mentor, veteran musician Marty McIntosh. Marty has opened and extensively toured with bands like AC/DC, Lynryd Skynrd, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. He has greatly impacted me and continues to be a catalyst and motivate me musically.

Point blank, music is my passion in life… With that being said, I have never been a part of a band that I've felt more strongly about then The Masons. I am very thankful to call every single one of these guys my friends and band members.

When I was thirteen years old my grandfather gave me his 1960’s Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar; instantly my passion for music was set in motion. From the moment I held that beautiful instrument in my hands I knew exactly what I was supposed to do with my life, I was meant to make music. My grandfather is my inspiration to making music and will continue to be my motivation as long as I live.

After having the guitar about a month it became clear that I wasn’t going to pick up talent of playing an instrument that I had no experience with without practice. I took guitar lessons from two different instructors totaling about a year altogether. I practiced constantly in all my free time, eventually getting to the point where I could play acoustic and electric guitars with ease and play songs after only listening to them a time or two. I also currently play the piano and the banjo which I am continuing to practice and hone my skill of playing.

My playing style on the guitar is a balance of country, southern rock all with a dash of blues thrown in the mix. I play off the style of various artists such as renowned American blues musician B.B. King, American southern rock group Lynyrd Skynyrd, along with various country musicians like Keith Urban, Vince Gill, Tim McGraw, and Brad Paisley. My lifelong dream is to become a country musician and move to Tennessee where I can put my talent to use and enrich people’s live with music.

Bass

I have always had a deep passion for music, but it wasn’t until my early years of middle school when I picked up my first pair of drum sticks at a friend’s house that I played my very first beats. I knew right then and there that I had stumbled upon a discovery… I discovered that I was born to make music.

Since then I've picked up experience on several other instruments, and played in a few bands including a local church group. Even through all of that, I could tell that my passion for sound lied elsewhere. I really liked the distorted chugging as well as the melodic picking and strumming patterns of a good ole’ 6 string, but what really caught my attention was the low punch, and flow of a bass guitar that rattles your chest. For me it was literally feeling the music that attracted me.

I've played bass for many bands now, and have had a tremendous amount of fun doing so! But it wasn't until I met Alex, Evan, and Tyler from an ad I posted in Guitar Center that I found so much talent and diversity in a single group of musicians like The Masons. I'm so thankful that I have the opportunity to perform alongside every single one of them on stage and even more thankful to be able to call them my friends.

Drums/Guitar/Pianist

I was raised in a family where no one really had a musical back ground. I was awestruck by music since before I could walk and I think that’s what ultimately sparked my dream to become a professional musician. I was introduced to my first musical instrument at the age of five when I picked up a guitar. I was taught how to play the old fashion bluegrass way. I continued to learn, practice, and play until I was about thirteen years old. Shortly thereafter I injured my hand and had to go through physical therapy which kept me from playing the guitar. During my time of not being able to play the guitar I began to experiment with other instruments. Drums immediately got my full and undivided attention! As I practiced, I began to discover that I had a natural ability to play! Eager to play something new, my passion took root and a short time after I bought my first drum kit! After buying my kit, I joined up with my church band to help me become a better musician with the added support of solidifying my faith; I continue to play with them to this day.

After playing in the church band for a couple of years, I met an awesome guy named Marty McIntosh who really opened up the doors for me. He eventually became the worship leader of my church and really spurred me forward to becoming a better drummer. After a couple of months, he invited me to drum for a group called N.R.G. or Next Radical Generation which was my first real band. We began playing shows that were much bigger than anything I had ever played before! It was an experience that really helped me become the drummer that I am today. I remained with N.R.G. for 6 months until I left to start my own band.

About a year later I met Alex who just showed up one day out of the blue at our youth group. He said that he was looking for a drummer and I had no idea that it would turn out to be me. After I finished playing that night he came up to talk to me and said, "So I think we should get together and jam sometime." I gave him my number and later that week we got together. Once we started to jam, we realized how great we worked together which lead us to creating The Masons.

Music has always been my escape from the world... It's a stress reliever to me as weights are to a body builder. If I didn't have music in my life I don’t think that I would be where I am today. God gave me this talent for a reason, and that reason is to make an impact on the world and share the light of this talent as well, and that's exactly what I plan to do.

God Bless,
